The King of Essential Oils

Known as ‘The King of essential oils’, Frankincense essential oil was highly valued by ancient civilizations and used for their most sacred of practices, such as incense and in balming Frankincense is thought to have been a truly royal possession in ancient biblical times due to its role in the Christian story of the nativity. So, it must be really valuable, right?

But what is Frankincense exactly? Frankincense oil comes from the Boswellia sacra tree and similar tree species. This tree has thin and peeling bark and tangled branches with clustered leaves at the end, growing up to 8 meters and they grow on craggy, rocky ‘hard to reach’ slopes in southern coastal mountains.

Those of us in the know, still use high quality Frankincense essential oil in our every day lives. (FYI, the focus on quality is important, because without the traditional chemical compounds in the pure oil, Frankincense loses it’s efficacy – so beware of those cheap bottles – they won’t work!). The ‘Frank’ harvesting process is time-consuming with hard to access trees and a laborious process, so there are many Frankincense ‘want to be’ products on the market which are not pure! In addition, this video explains why Frankincense trees are at risk of being over-harvested due to the high value of Frankincense.

There is loads of Frankincense research with documented benefits and continuing clinical studies focused on health and wellness. Check these out:

·       helping fight gum disease and maintaining oral health

·       providing skin healing support and wound improvement

·       providing calming, relaxation and grounding

·       anti-inflammatory effects may help reduce symptoms of osteoarthritis and possibly rheumatoid arthritis

·       reducing symptoms of IBS and and ulcerative colitis by reducing inflammation in your gut

·       Certain compounds may help kill cancer cells and prevent tumors from spreading

·       may help relieve asthma symptoms and reduce the amount of asthma medication needed
